Metamodule control linked to output

If I make a metamodule control link to "output" what does it do? I have noticed that the volume doesn't change until it gets to 00 then just cuts off. Also if I have this controller setup on a metamodule, when I send it into a snd2ctrl, moving the "output" slider can sometimes change the same rate slider in the connected snd2ctrl.
