unwanted crackling noises

Post by schnuffke2 »

Hi,

maybe it belong to the bug-subforum, idk. Maybe it is well known...

There are crackling or zipper noises whenever i automate the volume of a module by an external source. You can hear it best when playing low notes with kicker and modulate it's volume-parameter with MidiCC.

What is going on here?

Thanks and greetings...

It's the same on IPad and Computer.

Routing the kicker through an amplifier and automate the volume of that, brings up the same noises.

This will be fixed in SunVox 2.0 (modules: FM, SpectraVoice, Kicker, DrumSynth).
Current workaround:
1) add MultiCtl and connect it to your synth;
2) in MultiCtl set CONTROLLER to 1 (Volume), RESPONSE to 200, SAMPLE RATE to 1000;
3) change the VALUE ctl of the MultiCtl;
4) MultiCtl will send a smoothed parameter change to the synth;
You can choose the most suitable RESPONSE / SAMPLERATE values for a particular case.

(I have not tested it extensively, but at first sight...)

... it works.

Thank you!

@nightradio is this also a fix for crackling sounds when automating the cutoff param of a filter, with a sound2ctl?
Especially for lowpassing audio below 300hz it becomes obvious.
Would be awesome to have an env-filter example which also works on bass sounds without crackles.
Any idea how those bassguitar envelopefilter pedals can achieve such a clean and fast 'popping' sound without introducing crackles?
My attempts didn't work out so far :unknown:
