Noob question re effects

Post by justin »

Apologies in advance, am new to Sunvox

Am listening to 'City Dreams' (lovely), patterns starting at line 2176

At this point there are just four patterns playing; in vertical order, top to bottom -

- 1: a 'half' pattern
- 2: a pattern with a single track, which seems to have no note values
- 3: a complex set of tracks which seem to generate bass/fx
- 4: the synth pattern

If I mute out 4) I can just hear the bass/fx.

I then notice that 1) and 2) don't seem to have any 'note' values, just effect modules/parameters in their tracks; however if I mute out 1) and 2), the resulting fx from 3) sounds very 'different'; in particular much less 'rich'

So it seems as if somehow patterns 1) - 3) are linked; or more particularly, that 1) and 2) are adding extra richness effect- wise to 3); and yet if I mute out 3) I can't hear anything from 1) and 2) at all! (probably because there aren't any note values)

Could someone be kind and explain to me briefly how this is all working ?

Thank you :D

Here is the bass chain:
19.Generator -> 1A.Filter -> 1B.Distortion -> ....

And the patterns description:
  • Pattern 1: one note for the 0C.SpectraVoice - the "poooh" sound generator :) This pattern is not linked to any other, so you can mute it without consequences.
  • Pattern 2: changing the cut-off frequency of the 1A.Filter. For adding that extra richness effect for the 19.Generator.
  • Pattern 3: notes for the 19.Generator.
If you mute the [2] - you disable the Filter automation. You will still hear the 19.Generator's sound, but with the static Filter frequency.

OK I think I get that.

The one thing I don't get is how Pattern 2 is 'linked' to Pattern 3; is there a reference somewhere ? Or maybe a line between the two patterns in the pattern editor that I can't quite see ?

How do I go about linking two patterns in this way ?

Many thanks.

Or maybe I'm being stupid here.

You said the chain was 9::Generator -> 1A::Filter -> 1B::Distortion -> ..

So the link is here, in the module window; that makes sense now

Sorry for the trouble :-)
