WaxingAndWaning's XI Module Thread
Hello, Was converting some libraries to NN-XT refills & decided to convert some to XI as well. Everyone can use more instruments. Will be posting more on THIS thread in the near future so check back. My RARs will have 2 folders...The one titled LIB are instruments converted from bonafide sampler libraries such as SF2, SFZ, SXT, EXS, etc. The one marked WAV contains instruments converted from singular audio files which have limited range but many have multiple ranges or riffs so you can string them together like a kung fu routine. This may not be prudent for many trackers but is easy in SunVox.
For now here are BASSES...This 110 mb RAR is 400 mb decompressed. Fretted, Fretless, Acoustic...etc.

OK here we go...Guitars in XI format. 80 mb archive is @ 270 mb uncompressed. Have fun...probably keyboards next. Special note though...Some libraries simply do not convert well or at all. I try to weed them out before uploading some might get through...Just delete 'em. You'll know them by poor volume or way extended sustains or they don't even sound like the assumed instrument or maybe not tuned in right. An exception to the pitch problem are chord & riff conversions that do not follow the normal chromatic rule...You just play with those to find a fit in ur sequencer.

Sounds good, but what is the legal status of these instruments? Are they licensed at all?

Re: WaxingAndWaning's XI Module Thread
Alot of these...probably 70-80% are converted from soundfont files I have collected up on the internet over the years. This format seems to convert the best to XI. I do not know the legal status of the soundfonts and many could've been converted to soundfonts from other libraries. Many of the conversions came from GM soundfonts that have many combined instruments within. These were all free downloads but not all from original sites as many who offered free soundfonts no longer have up & running websites anymore. A person can really tear their hair out on this subject so my personal rule is if you plan on making money with your music best to go with samples you can validate as free or you buy yourself...However if you are just making music to enjoy yourself then best not to fret over it as the samples could've passed through dozens of hands & perhaps been converted 3-5 times before I got them.

Thanks, I'll put them in the category 'handle with care' then
It's always a bit of a difficult subject with sampled instruments, and there's plenty of examples where obviously copyrighted samples have been used without any permission or compensation without issues (Amen Break), so chances are it'll all be fine, I personally try to make sure all permissions are in place. Though I do have some awesome Mellotron samples which are a bit shady, but they're just too good not to use.

Re: WaxingAndWaning's XI Module Thread
OK my mute comerades...Been gone awhile fighting weather & such.Have a bunch of keyboard XIs but on a laptop not here. However I have been playing with splitting instruments by velocity layer for increased realism. I have one for you here which is a fav instrument of mine...the Fender Rhodes. Hard to find a passable version but utilizing velocity layers helps. This soundfont was downloaded from http://learjeff.net/sf/sf.html and is free. I took the SF2 & split it by velocity into its 5 velocity layers & made each a separate XI instrument. So what now you say? You load all five modules up in SunVox in a vertical column in the order-
jRhodes3 Loud++
jRhodes3 Loud+
jRhodes3 Med
jRhodes3 Soft+
jRhodes3 Soft++
Next adjust the individual volumes...Soft++ should have a very low volume whilst Loud++ should be near max with all others evenly spread. Now when you compose your riff or arpeggio click on a louder or softer instrument as you enter notes for a much more dynamic sound. Think of all these 5 instruments as 1 instrument with differing velocity layers cause that is what it is. This can be done in any other tracker as well & renoise is done in similar fashion but SunVox seems the easiest to apply this technique. I will be making more multi-velocity sets in the near future but some libraries are too large to do this with & a person would soon end up with gigabyte sized song files...crap! So I must pick & choose. These 5 instruments add up to @ 80 mb which is a bit but SunVox has no problem with it.

Oh also will be making a new tune with mostly multi-velocity instruments as an example using SunVox. It will be posted on soundcloud when done at https://soundcloud.com/waxing-and-waning/ There is only one tune there now which was my first SunVox tune but it was just done with instruments from the klarchive.
Re: WaxingAndWaning's XI Module Thread
Thanks for sharing.
You could also play the five modules from a MultiSynth going into five MultiSynths with Velocity curves (second Graph type) with all the unwanted output velocities per module set to zero so that they complement each other (check 'Ignore notes with zero velocity'), and use regular velocity commands (or MIDI input). This allows for tweaking the range and steepness for each layer for even more nuance. This setup saved in a MetaModule = a single multilayered instrument.

Re: WaxingAndWaning's XI Module Thread
Hello...I haven't messed around much with the multisynth modules. So I have not a clue as to set it up. Sounds like it might be superior for the strictly SunVox user. Would be nice if you could create such a module & then upload it to a file hoster so we could all download it, open it up in SunVox to see how it's done via back engineering.
Re: WaxingAndWaning's XI Module Thread
I'll check to see how well this works for the Rhodes XIs.
For now, here's a lightweight demonstration of the principle using four plain generators:

OK iaon, Thanks...Tried messing with the multisynth but I don't see how it can relate to individual XI instruments so I'll wait for your update.
In the meantime I am splitting more XI's into velocity layers. This time I sampled my own VSTi & then split it into 5 velocity layers with 4 keyzones per octave for like a mid quality, note sustain is like an average pick to keep the filesize low. If you want a longer sound then hook all ur modules into a reverb. I have included an example WAV that is just one pattern with the different modules being triggered then ran into a reverb turned about halfway down. This is designed to be setup like the jRhodes but you don't have to use all 5...You can use 3 or 1 if it is just used as a background instrument. If ur gonna solo it in ur song I suggest all 5 though.

Re: WaxingAndWaning's XI Module Thread
Got another here...Also sampled from my VSTi. About the same parameters as the previous ElectroAcoustic...However this is a power guitar sound & the VSTi wants to go staccato on lower velocities. So this would be good for power riffs-runs comping or power chords on a medium to fast rate, not long drawn out notes. Have included an example WAV that had all 5 modules hooked into a reverb module with feedback turned down. As always you can extend the sound using reverb or echo. And you'll probably need to play with the individual module volumes to get the right dynamics.

Re: WaxingAndWaning's XI Module Thread
So here's the MetaModule containing the five JRhodes XIs. Each one is triggered in about a fifth of the velocity range:
67-80
4E-66
34-4D
1A-33
00-19
You can always change these by editing the MM, resetting the Velocity curves on the MultiSynths for each XI and removing all the unwanted input velocities for each one, making sure every value plays exactly one of them.
The MM has volume controllers for the individual XIs that can be adjusted to refine the transitions between them. An easy way to check these is to play the MM from a MultiSynth and repeatedly play a note or a chord while changing the Velocity slider (standard transitions at values 52-104-156-206).
To use this as a template for other instruments, replace the samplers (copy/delete MultiSynths and set their ranges if more/less are needed) and make sure the user defined controllers still refer correctly.

Re: WaxingAndWaning's XI Module Thread
Thank You muchly....iaon. I see what you've done now. I like the volume adjusts all stacked together that way...Bravo. I will convert some for use in SunVox for sure & now others can do too. However I am going to keep on sharing in XI as this is an XI format thread as many hear probably use other trackers as well. By the way, I have tried a few & found these to be good choices nowadays-
Commercial-
-Renoise (of course)
-DreamStation II (Tracker or piano roll, nice clean interface, well thought out, uses vst-vsti, pretty stable but eats a bit more CPU than it should, plays well with DX & VST plugins)
-Ioneo Aero Studio (No longer available, Stable, low CPU, can use VSTi to a degree, Intelligent layout like SunVox. However NO docs...you must figure it out cold turkey. Last version a long way from finished...on screen keyboard still disabled! Too bad this one got abandoned)
-MadTracker-MEDsoundstudio- Haven't tried but kind of look ok.
Free-
-SunVox (a clear choice)
-Buze (very good still needs a bit of work)
-Aodix (Diamond in the rough but its as good as it will get as the dev has passed on)
-OpenMPT (powerful but I don't mix well with it)
-Psycle (top notch in most every way)
-Chaotic Music Maker (This used to be commercial but is now open-source...this is a piano roll & sort of a different kind of tracker...if you can call it that. Uses VSTs & is very easy to figure out. Very intelligent workflow...Samples used directly as instruments like alot of trackers. Was compiled by a musician who was disgusted with the poor workflows on most DAWs. Somebody SHOULD take this up & continue the Great start...HERE-
http://piece0ftime.blogspot.kr/2012/04/ ... on-of.html
and here-

The name is not very flattering. Only complaints are a bit of instability & CPU drainage with certain plugs)
OK..,.I have taken up some space, there are many more trackers out there so try them all if possible. Will post more XI soon.

Re: WaxingAndWaning's XI Module Thread
More XI Instruments...Sampled from VSTi output...All velocity splits. I am no longer going to rename the velocities so 'L0' is the lowest velocity & 'L7' or whatever the highest # is the loudest. Simpler for me. Sampled in this way there are no restrictions use these personal or commercial projects...Distribute them freely or sell them at an insane profit. If you can sell someone a bunch of XI instruments then you deserve the money.
