just a shower thought i had: i had the idea of finding parallels between the various subgenres of drum and bass and rock/metal
of course these parallel genres exist for entirely different reasons and aim to do completely different things, but whatever, this was just a fun idea i had

dancefloor drum and bass - heavy metal/nwobhm
darkstep - death metal
drumfunk - math rock
jazzstep - jazz-rock
jump-up - hard rock/glam rock
jungle - rock & roll
neurofunk - technical death metal
techstep - industrial rock
trancestep - power metal
sewerslvt et al (not a real genre but nonetheless quite influential in dnb nowadays) - shoegaze
skullstep - dissonant death metal
