Is there ever going to be an Android version of Sunvox?

Post by Momotombo » Sat Jul 10, 2010 12:22 am

I used to have a Windows Mobile phone, but now I don't and I really miss using Sunvox on the go. Would it be so hard to make an Android version of this program? It's already out for everything else anyway.

Perhaps someday i'll make a port for Android. But now i can't say any details - porting to Android is not easy...

Just got a droid 2, so +1 on this. And count on me to evangelize sunvox if it does come to android...

Due the keyboard and the relatively open file system, I would say sunvox would be more usable on it than on my ipod touch.

You should really look into porting this to android. Android is growing fast and its a very important platform on the market.

You could make the entire Android platform as a whole more appealing by allowing us to make the argument, "Yes, it runs SunVox".

Here is a quick round up of some of the problems that NR must be facing.

The main problem surrounds that fact that android OS doesnt do low latency sound, but there is hope.
IKmedia did some successful initial attempts
http://www.ikmultimedia.com/forum/viewt ... 2010&t=553
but very little has been seen since. Seems that the apis wasnt quite there yet.
The real sting in the tail has been that apples api allowed for low latency sound from the start. This was boosted by the fact that hardware drivers for iphone/ipad for gear like midi adapters, usb keyboards etc are the same as the ones as the for the macs, so in some cases already existed.

oh, thank you for this information. At the moment i working on the graphics part of Android version. So i don't know anything about its audio subsystem. This info will be useful for me.
Seems that only iOS has beautiful low-latency audio architecture :( Although it is not a barrier for SunVox, of course ;)
