1.9.2.beta - Suggestion: add "major time grid (lines)"

Post by queries »

Suggestion: Rename "time grid (lines)" to "minor time grid (lines)" and add a new setting "major time grid (lines)" whose default value would be 16.

Rationale:

The addition of "time grid (lines)" is great, as it makes it easier to support 4/4 time signature with 1 tick per line (time grid lines = 6) and also easier to support 12/8 time signature with 8 ticks per line (time grid lines = 3).

However, a waltz (3/4 time signature) or other less common time signatures would benefit from being able to adjust where the measure highlights occur.

( A further proposal -- perhaps for 1.9.3? -- would be that these settings could be overridden on individual patterns, to support composing songs that switch between time signatures -- see Skaven's classic "War in the Middle Earth - remix" for an example of an old S3M that switches between 12/8 time with 8 ticks per line, 12/8 time at 4 ticks per line, and 4/4 time at 6 ticks per line - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGJQYYYTICU )

Haha nice to see you here timelime!

(For observers... He and I discovered tracking together in the early 1990s via ScreamTracker... The suggestion I made in this thread is based on a conversation we had last night after he tried the new beta)

Agree! :)

I promise to think about it.
Actually the current time grid is far from the true time signature. Maybe we should add the "Lines Per Beat" parameter like in the Renoise...
